Course Outline


This course aims to equip students with the theoretical background, but also the practical ability to evaluate and select investments and policy measures. The financial analysis of a private project looks at the project from a private perspective only, but the cost-benefit analyst looks at the project from a broader economic and social perspective. The course will therefore be useful for both students seeking a career in the private sector, in consultancy firms and  in non-governmental organizations and in the public sector as well. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be familiar with the concept and the content of: - the alternative methods for the financial evaluation of investments -  the application of the Cost-Benefit Method for the socio-economic evaluation of investments and policies -  the special issues related to evaluation of specific types of investments  in different sectors ie. transport, health, environmental protection, education, etc. - the ex ante and the ex post evaluation - RIA method for the evaluation of policy measures
