Course Outline
The course aims to familiarize students with modern intervention trends within or beyond the boundaries of justice systems. Specifically, it analyzes the ideological, sociological, and cultural approaches to alternative paradigms for the administration of justice, such as restorative justice. Extrajudicial conflict resolution represents a contemporary trend in criminal justice systems, extending beyond juvenile delinquency to other forms of criminality as well. International and European organizations emphasize the need to relieve the burden on criminal systems and adopt restorative justice, focusing on the restoration of the harm or damage suffered by the victim and the assumption of individual responsibility by the offender. Special reference is made to the European Directive of 2012 on the protection of victims and the provisions regarding the concept and practices of Restorative Justice.
